Day 50

Yesterday I did not blog, I know this has never happened before but I will try to summarize yesterday's happenings. Jen decided to put a fish in the aquarium we were using as a rain gauge. She wanted to see how long it would take me to realize that there was a fish in it. The answer is the first time I walked by it. I just stood there staring at the tank trying to figure out how that fish got there. Well now the school has a pet. Not a snake but it'll do till I catch its replacement. We got a nice surprise when we went to badminton, the coach caled and said that he couldn't come. So there was no badminton. The staff of ESD went on a vacation to Cabo Rojo yesterday. Jen has a list of things that she would like to do in Puerto Rico before she gets married and starts a new life. Well Cabo Rojo is on that list. So since we didn't have badminton we got to leave a little early. Cabo Rojo is about a three hour drive to the other side of the island. We stayed the night there and went snorkeling in the morning it was so fun. Me and Leo found a jellyfish that we played with for a while. There really very playful, being all squishy like they do. Anyway, drove back and watched a movie in the chapel. Very fun, tomorrow I am going to a deaf church, pray for me! There is a good chance that people will talk to me. I'll probably be ok. Until then.

Day 48

No sign of the snake today, or the rain that was supposed to hit us all week. Oh well. I did some mowing today and the lawnmower is running perfectly. The kids are loving the rope swing that I made, which is good because I had to climb a palm tree to do it. Not easy. It has provided its share of injuries though. Today I was swinging Saul on it and he let go at the wrong time and did a belly flop on the grass, he didn't enjoy that I'm sure. Then I guess Kevin fell on it today I didn't see that. He has also earned some blisters on his hands from the rope. Interesting think happened today. I was in Betsy's class helping with her kids and one of her girls stopped participating and just did not look good so Betsy had her on her lap and was trying to comfort her but it didn't work. She threw up all over the place. Needless to say she spent the rest of the day with her mother. I was so tired today that after lunch I went in the chapel to take a nap before the kids came to practice the bells. I woke up and all the kids had come in and Betsy had them singing songs instead of playing the bells, so I could sleep. It was a much needed nap, since I was up late on Skype last night. We ended the day with a night beach trip. The beach is so much better in the dark. Tomorrow after school I intend on sleeping on the beach in Cabo Rojo which is all the way on the other side of the island. I'm very excited, but I might not blog tomorrow. I don't know that anyone will care haha. Good night all.

Day 47

Very little rain today. I guess it was supposed to rain all day but it didn't. As you may know I have been searching for a snake for some time now. I think the school needs a pet and a snake could be the perfect one. Well today Betsy and Saul saw a snake down by the shop but it escaped through the fence and into the forest. The steering came loose again on the riding lawnmower. I fixed it and I think this time it will stay fixed. After I fixed the lawnmower I was driving it back to the shop when I saw a dark brown three foot snake just to the left of the shop door. So I jumped off the mower and chased it down. The snake quickly hid in some tall grass close by, but I quickly found it, but just as I spotted its tail it took off like it knew that it had been seen. It darted straight for a nearby tree that had roots near to the ground that it could hide under. I put my hand on the tree and started to search but before I knew it my hand was covered in fire ants that were on the tree! I quickly brushed them off my hand but by the time I did I had lost sight of the snake. I searched and searched but the snake had disappeared like a really tall and skinny ninja. You've won the battle little ninja but the war has just begun. Anyway so Jen and Betsy have these flowers that only bloom like once in a really long time or something and there really big and they attract bats. Well they bloomed tonight, pretty cool.

Day 46

Maria finally did something! 7 inches of rain today. There was flooding on the streets getting to and from the school and there was a river going through the courtyard of the school. It wasn't a big one, just big enough to slide through on a boogie board. I love rain. The 7" happened all before 2pm to. That wasn't even a full day of rain. Well the weather man says rain through the end of the week so I'll see how many times I can fill up the 10 gallon aquarium with rain. We did have school today though. Of coarse there were only 3 students but school is school. Not a lot to do when its raining, especially when all the work that I do is outside. At least we got most of the lawns done yesterday, they could use a little more work but it'll have to wait. I really hope the weather man is right, I love rain. Besides it forces me to clean my dorm since I can't do anything outside.

Day 45

The storm was pretty bad, we had almost a half an inch of rain today. So disappointing. Well because of the storms failed attempt at existing we had school today. Judy has not been feeling well these past week, up late with head aches and her hip has been bothering her so prayer is needed. So the badminton tournament that we were going to have doesn't actually exist! So all this practice has been for nothing. The coach told us there will still be a tournament but it will be in December or something, I don't remember. Either way it is a long time from now. So Betsy's solution to this is to cut the practices down to two per week until the actual tournament gets a little closer. That way the kids can maintain what they have learned and we can get things done in school. Awesome, problem solved. We eat a meal that Elizabeth had prepared for the storm tonight, it was very good. Its nice eating real food. I don't know haw to cook so I eat frozen things, and Mac&Cheese. I guess if I put any effort into cooking I could learn. I replaced one of the blades on the riding lawn mower today then it broke right after. Not the blade though, I did that right. It was the steering. Turns out the only problem is a loose screw so it was an easy fix, my favorite kind. Me and Leo also fit in a trip to the beach. The waves weren't that great but every once in a while there would be a huge one from the storm. One wave was so big that it broke Leo's boogie board in half! Awesome. Its very nice to escape from the heat and hit the beach now and then. Especially on Monday because we mow the lawns on Monday.

Day 44

Ok for real this time, storm tonight. Maria has been taking so long to get here but she is finally hours away. Wind speed is back up to 60mph but the storm has moved further north than previously expected. It is still within striking distance and there is still a ton of rain expected, very cool. My usual church was cancelled this morning do to the storm so I went to Betsy's church. I'm getting better at understanding the sermons every time I go there. Ok I need to finish my laundry before the power goes out! Thanks for reading.
