Day 98

My first bell performance. I didn't do very well. Betsy will usually say where we are at in the song a few times and I thought I didn't need that. Well I do. The first song I maybe played four notes. I did better on the other songs but it was a really bad start. I think the average age of our audience was four and a half so I'm not too upset about it. I had such a good day with Saúl today, I love that kid. He knows that I really dislike glitter so he got some and tried to sneak up on me and put it on my face. He eventually succeeded. Everything was so wet today. The holes in the grass were full of water.  I'm never going to get over how much it rains here. I love it. We went to the beach after school and the waves were so nice! The water temperature though has unfortunately dropped below 80 degrees. I don't know haw I'm ever going to get into a Californian beach ever again.

Day 97

It just registered to me today that I will be playing the bells in front of an entire school full of children on Friday. That's a lot of pressure. It rained all day today. Some of it was crazy, thunder that shook the building, the dogs were freaking out. It's no fun playing inside. The kids aren't as tired out after either. Then they still have all this energy in class. Badminton was cancelled again today! I think something is wrong with the coach. So we will be heading over to Tess' school first thing tomorrow morning. I think Kristian and I will be going alone before everyone else to set up the tables and the bells. It should be an interesting day. Saúl had a meltdown during our first play time today. He refused to play nicely with the trains. So he was again put into time out and cried the whole time. After lunch however Saúl played so well! He kept looking over at Betsy and telling her that he was going to ask one of the girls for a particular train. He's moving in the right direction, sometimes.

Day 96

Ok so yesterday I thought it was Monday. Yesterday was Tuesday, tomorrow is Thursday so yesterday's tomorrow is Wednesday not Tuesday. I was confused. Anyway all was well today. I forgot to mention in my post yesterday that one of the huge white vans got stuck in the mud. So I had to climb a palm tree to rescue the rope that we were using as a swing, so I could tie the vans together. It was great fun. It’s impossible to climb a palm tree. They are way too skinny to get any good out of rapping your arms or legs around them. You end up doing the caterpillar up the thing, and a lot of them are a little pokey in some places. When I finally managed to get to the knot that I tied the rope to the tree with I couldn't untie it because it had been pulled so tight. It eventually came loose. The van was so dug in and had covered everything in mud. I spent a lot of time under the two vans securing the ropes so I could pull out the stuck van. I was pretty muddy after that. It’s ok though I like mud. Today went pretty smoothly in school. Saul and the girls played attention pretty well. We had a good bell practice, everyone is sounding pretty good. Just in time for Friday. Betsy has her eye appointment tomorrow afternoon so the class is mine. I'm excited.

Day 95

I cut my hair. I look crazy with a Mohawk, I'm supposed to be a teacher. So today Saul was not doing so well. I guess he didn't sleep last night because he was so grumpy and just not ready to work at all. I ended being forced to sit in timeout for punishment where he cried and cried until finally falling asleep in his chair. So funny. I guess this was pretty common when he was younger. After school Betsy, Leo, and I went to the beach to recover. It was nice. I really hope he sleeps tonight, I don't know that Betsy or I will survive that two days in a row. She was the one dealing with him too, I was mostly just there and I really think she handled it better than me. Shes been doing this for a while though. Badminton was cancelled today because we only had like three kids that were ready to practice. The rest were either absent or they didn't bring their clothes. That happens, I wasn't really in the mood for badminton anyway after having Saul all day. Speaking of the child I think I need to just check something. So Saul lives in Puerto Rico. His name is Saúl and is not pronounced the same as the English name Saul. Its just a pain to type the u with the accent every time. Sorry for any confusion with that. Tomorrow is Tuesday, it feels like it should be at least Thursday.

Day 94

Look at me! I'm cutting that off tomorrow.
Crazy hair day! Oh crazy hair day. Wow so I have a Mohawk now. I have to start watching out for that peer pressure stuff that we teach the kids to ignore. We all did ridiculous things with our hair like coloring our hair and spiking it in weird ways but I ended up actually cutting my hair. Don't get me wrong Hector did a great job but now I have a Mohawk to deal with. I'm so Puerto Rican. Anyway I told everyone yesterday that today I would run up a tree and do a back flip. So I did. It was a lot easier than I expected. When Jamie was here she left me some bread that someone made for me. One loaf of Amish bread, one loaf of Pumpkin bread and One loaf of Banana nut bread. We all eat them tonight and they were so good! I love bread.

Day 93

Last week went by so fast. I can't believe its already over. Well I went to church this morning and tonight. This morning I was really tired and couldn't pay attention but thanks to a little bit of caffeine I was very attentive in tonight's service. It was really good. Tomorrow is crazy hair day at the school. I already have a rat tail, how much crazier can I get. I'm thinking maybe I shave a Mohawk. Then I can add colors, so cool. This week is going to be very interesting. There is the crazy hair day tomorrow, pizza party tomorrow, wednesday Betsy has an eye appointment in the afternoon so I will have her class, and Friday we are playing the bells for people. I'm excited. Maybe I'm just tired but does this make sense to anyone, "Faith in antagonism to common sense is fanaticism, and common sense in antagonism to faith is rationalism." -Oswald Chambers
