Day 71

I watched my snake kill and eat a lizard. Sounds cool right. Well it took over 2 hours. During the first hour the lizard ran back and forth in the cage and the snake slowly followed. Finally about an hour and a half in the snake bites the lizard in the tail and just holds on. The lizard just kept running in place until I guess it gave up and died after 20 minutes. I really don't think this snake is poisonous but the was no constricting taking place. Then it took the thing like 20 minutes just to it the dead lizard. Oye, not doing that again. Judy's car failed to start today after a trip to Econo so Elizabeth and I drove out and jump started her car. I spent some more time in the jungle today, its almost peaceful in between spider and mosquito bites. No school this Wednesday, I guess its a holiday or something, I can never keep track of all of them. Weekends are no fun.

Day 70

70 days! Wow. Another good day with Saul. If I was at all qualified I might look into this whole teaching thing. I guess its only one kid though. Easy to say until you know this child. So I ventured into the forest today, with nothing but a machete in my hand and the will to survive! Ya so it wasn't that bad, one time I spent the day in downtown LA. It was kind of like that except more spiders. Elizabeth made pancakes for me and Jen for dinner today, then we watched The Bourne Ultimatum! So good. Tomorrow is Saturday and all will be well again. I stocked up on mosquito bites in the rain forest, not that I was low or anything. Now I'm at 13,425 of them. Saul started circling them all with a pen in school, he got tired and stopped.

Day 69

I woke up at 3:30 this morning and there was a rat in my room. Great. Well Betsy is in Pennsylvania, drove her to the airport this morning with enough time to get some reading done before school started so I went out to the playground and sat in the play house. I watched the sunrise over the rain forest with a slight breeze and a short rain shower. It was amazingly peaceful. Then school started. Just me and Saul, and it went very well. I remain skeptically optimistic, I really hope it stays this way for the other 3 days I'm teaching but it probably won't. I managed to finish mowing the lawns and do some quick shopping after school. Tomorrow is Friday, and after that comes saturday... anyway I'm excited, teaching is kind of fun when its only for a few days. I'd rather play with power tool though. Maybe tomorrow I will teach Saul how to use the table saw.

Day 68

I'm waking up at like 4am tomorrow to bring Betsy to the airport tomorrow so this won't be long. I worked with Saul for a couple hours this morning and I think we did pretty good. I did pass him off to Betsy in the afternoon though when he was tired. Either way its me and Leo tomorrow and other than me being really tired tomorrow I don't think it will be too hard. The snake eat another lizard. I think he needs a week off from eating, I really don't think they're supposed to eat this much. Online all it said was that if you feed your snake to often you face the risk of obesity. Then I would just be another parent feeding there kid McDonald's. I refuse to contribute to the already staggering childhood obesity rate in America. I won't do it. Anyway, Betsy gave me a book to read by Oswald Chambers that I'm pretty excited about. He's dead though, so if I have a problem with his book I can't write him a letter. Not that I've done that before but I like knowing I can. After school tomorrow I need to find away to maintain consciousnesses just long enough to mow the back field before I fall asleep. Good thing God invented energy drinks.

Day 67

I taught Elizabeth's class today. It went pretty well. Then after lunch Betsy, Kevin, Kristian, and myself managed to mow almost all of the lawns before badminton. I was forced to stop when the lawn mower broke. I didn't really have time to fix it so I guess another day. Then I took the kids to badminton but there was nobody there. I hate when that happens. I named the snake. I'm calling him Bo. Two reasons. I'm pretty sure he's a Boa, and his full name is Bozidar which, in the Czech Republic means gift from God, I think. If you don't like it sweet, don't call him that. I gave him another lizard bigger than the one from yesterday and he made quick work of it. The kids really don't seem that excited by it. We tried to watch him eat the lizard but he waited until we gave up and left before he ate it. Still a little scared of people. He is learning me already though. When I hold him now he will rap his tail around one of my fingers and relax instead of constantly trying to escape. Also after hours of search and research I discovered that my snake is most likely a Puerto Rican Racer. Very interesting snake. The dogs caught another iguana. I found them playing tug-of-war with it. Not surprisingly the iguana was just fine so I distracted the dogs and threw it on top of a building next to a tree it could climb down later.

Day 66

Big day. God sent me a present. I was walking back to my room today and there at the top of my stairs was a baby snake! Waiting for me. I have a home set up for him. I caught him a baby lizard to eat but he seemed too scared to eat it but I left them alone for like 5 minutes and when I came back all that was left of the lizard was a little bit of its tail sticking out of the snakes mouth. Nice. I also fed him a baby toad. He still doesn't have a name so I'm taking suggestions. So cool. He didn't even try to bite me. So tomorrow I have Elizabeth's class. She has the older kids so it won't be bad. They're civilized and can handle themselves most of the time. Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday on the other hand are going to be a little more tricky. On Thursday I will be taking Betsy to the airport before school starts and then I will be responsible for Saul for four days. I don't think its his fault that he is always causing trouble. It's just that every class has a trouble maker and this week Saul is the only kid in his class. It's statistics and probability really. Anyway its past me and the snakes bed time. Think of a name so I don't have to. P.S. I'm pretty sure a cow is giving birth in the field. It's being very loud.

Day 65

I understood so much of the Spanish at church today. Mostly because the speaker today is from Mexico, and that's what I'm used to living in California. School tomorrow, we only have a few more days with Betsy before she flies to visit her church. Me and Leo will be mostly responsible for her class while shes gone. That should be fun. Can't wait to see how Saul will act without the boss around. I also think that I'm taking Elizabeth's class tomorrow, or Tuesday or something. Well I guess I'll find out in the morning. It'll be a surprise. So today after church Lily, one of the dogs at the school, caught an iguana. I was called over to see what to do about it. I got over there and got the two and a half foot lizard from the dog. It wasn't moving except for it's eyes so I thought it best to put it put of its misery. I happened to have a dive knife on me so I put it through its thought hoping to hit the spinal cord but the skin was too tough and I couldn't move the blade anywhere. Despite missing the spinal cord I put a pretty big hole in the things neck but after I pulled the knife out of him he started moving. I had heard before that this things are impossible to kill but this was ridiculous. Elizabeth said to just let the dog finish it off because she is pretty good at it so I gave Lilly the 'go ahead' and she quickly took it away. Thinking that was the end of it I continued on with my day. At around 5:30 me and Betsy got back from a quick snorkeling trip at beach down the street and when we got out of the car Elizabeth was there and she said that Lilly has a hole in her said. Well I guess some time after I left the iguana got a hold of her side and took a chunk out of it. I'm sure she'll be fine but that is going to leave a pretty bad scare. She doesn't even seem to notice. She's running around chasing cars the same as she usually does. Who knows what happened to the iguana, the thing probably got away. They really are invincible.
