Day 113

I slept in this morning and did some grocery shopping when I woke up. I've put that off for too long. This afternoon Betsy, Leo, Tess and I went on a small road trip to look at a potential puppy. They didn't seem very healthy so we decided to move on. Tess has decided that she is going to pretend to be deaf for two days. I have a lot of trouble understanding her sign language. That basically led to some friction. For Example when the waiter at dinner was asking me something that I didn't understand. Betsy was in the bathroom and Tess was just sitting there looking at me when she knows perfectly good Spanish.  Made for an interesting meal. The puppies were really fun though they were really small for Great Dane puppies. Anyway, the search continues.

Day 112

Nice relaxing morning today. I went to get new blades for the lawn mower after chapel, again. Then Tess called the school, Betsy picked up, laughed for a while then told me that it was Tess and I need to drive to the doctor's office. Which obviously didn't make sense to me so I took the phone and asked her what was going on. Well Tess went to the doctor's office to get her throat checked out. I guess in Puerto Rico you can't do this alone until you are twenty one. Tess is Twenty, this is where I come in. So I drive over there, eventually find the place and sat with her in the waiting room. I was really unsure of what was expected of me. So the doctor called us in and I was just sitting there the whole time. The weird thing is that they never asked for my I.D. or my signature or anything. This country is strange. So I sat through the appointment and then left. Oh, and all the guy did was looked at her and asked a few questions then prescribed her her antibiotic of choice. No tests needed. So after lunch I worked on Kevin's Laptop, which my father and I have decided is dead and basically beyond repair. That's never good news to give. After all that I had Saul for the afternoon while Betsy was taking care of some business. Luckily the girls left by then so I only had one student, granted he is a hand full. He kind of stabbed me in the leg with a pencil. I'm really not sure how intentional it was. He seemed surprised when I started bleeding, crazy kid. Other than an occasional act of violence he is a very pleasant child.

Day 111

One more day until Thanksgiving break. Nothing really exciting happened today so that's nice. Betsy will be gone tomorrow afternoon so I will have Saul. He's been doing pretty good lately. You might have noticed that I haven't posted anything for three days. Then today I put up posts for the past three days. Well, every night when I go to write my blog the internet has been down. Well it turns out that the father of the two girls in my class, who is staying here this week, has been turning off the power bar every day that has the router and modem on it. So he was told today to not turn that off. For the past three days I have just been writing my posts in Word. I can finally post them. Anyway, it rains so much this time of year! I'm still waiting for a chance to seal the roofs. I guess I'm just going to have to get a tarp.

Day 110

For the past three days now the internet in my building has been down at night. What’s that about? Its fine all day but then I show up to write my blog and Skype friends and family and nothing. So I have been typing these in Microsoft Word and I guess tomorrow I can post them. There is talk of another puppy. Betsy found a family of six Great Dane puppies. I believe she plans to go take a look at them on Saturday. Pretty exciting, I hope she gets one but I am not the one who will be taking care of it for the next twelve years. I tried to argue both sides with her today; she seems pretty set on a puppy. Great Danes are really cool dogs though. I know the kids will love it. Well, today was fun. A few guys came from a church nearby to help fix the lawn mowers that aren’t working. That’s a huge help because I don’t have a whole lot of experience fixing lawn mowers. I’m so excited for Thanksgiving! I really like food, like in general, and this is a holiday all about eating. What more could I ask for. I have a twenty four pound turkey in my freezer. I’ve been waiting to eat this think for a while now. The day is near.

Day 109

Well one of the snakes escaped. The big one in fact. I’m pretty sure Jen’s not going to care though. Speaking of Jen, Darla, Betsy and I drove to the airport today to drop her car off in the parking structure. I had a great time. I drove Jen’s car alone while Betsy and Darla drove seprete and dropped off Kevin on the way. So I missed the turn for the airport but it really worked out because I got to go on like three of those really sharp turns that just keeps turning forever, I still enjoy those. I eventually got to the airport and into the parking structure and I got the best spot right next to the secret exit to Wendy’s. Then right as I got there Betsy pulled up in front of Wendy’s and she had cars behind her so she couldn’t stop. So I ran through Wendy’s yelling on her phone to Darla’s phone for her to stay there and I barely made it. Then we went to old San Juan to show Darla one of the forts and the Puerto Rican dances they do there. It was pretty cool. We eat dinner at this hole in the wall restaurant that was really good.

Day 108

The power went out last night. Well it was a brown out I guess. My clock was all dim and kept dying. I kept resetting it. I had to turn off my fans to allow more power to run my clock radio. Well I could never get it to stay on. So I slept on the other side of my bed and opened my windows as wide as they would get hoping that the sunrise would wake me. I would have used my phone but it was killed by Puerto Rico. I intentionally never used my phone so that it would not get fried by the bad electricity and everything else here but it did. That's what I get for trying to protect my precious possessions. Anyway it was really cloudy this morning so the sunrise didn't wake me. So I got in trouble this morning because I was late. It happens I guess.

Day 107

Today started with deaf church. Always good. Then after church Betsy, Leo and myself headed over to the airport, which is conveniently close to church, to pick up the lady that I mentioned yesterday. She employs a number of deaf individuals and helps struggling small businesses as well as churches to raise funds and to become stronger financially. She is a very accomplished individual. She seems to be able to hold her own in three languages that I have seen. I'm excited to see what God has planned for her stay at the school. She also seems very interested in Puerto Rican culture with regards to the deaf community and their employment opportunities. She went to church with us tonight which is in Spanish and she seemed to understand everything pretty well. She also knows Sign Language which she learned from a friend I guess. I am going to be working tomorrow from sun up till sun down. At least I hope so, I have a lot of things I want to get done. Mow the lawns, pressure wash the roof of my building, dig up a giant plant that is blocking a drain by the car port, apply roof sealer to my rain gutters and to the leak on Betsy's roof. Sounds like an action packed day of fun to me. Anyway, here's a quote which will soon be very real to me as I am unemployed, haha enjoy.
"All our fears are wicked, and we fear because we will not nourish ourselves in our faith. How can any one who is identified with Jesus Christ suffer from doubt or fear!" -Oswald Chambers
The man knows what he's talking about.

Day 106

A woke up early this morning and got in a car headed for the other side of the island. We stopped at Denny's on the way and got some extra hash browns for the fish. We arrived in Aguadilla at about 11. We had a great time snorkeling and jumping off of the pier. I swam down maybe thirty feet. The water was so clear and full of fish. Tomorrow Betsy and I will be going to deaf church in the morning and then picking up a lady at the airport, who will be helping at the school for a week. She lives in California and does fund raisers professionally. That will mix things up for sure. I'm so tired! I'm sure by Monday I will be ready to take on another week. I need to mow and power wash some more roofs. I also need to apply roof sealer to a few holes and fill in some rain gutters, which should be interesting. The trick is it needs to stay dry for at least three hours. That’s hard to do here. So I need to guess when I will have three hours of sunlight.
