Day 85

I woke up very excited today. Jen dropped me off at the airport with just enough time to have a frosty at Wendy's before Jamie and my parents arrived. After we had lunch we took a shuttle to rent a car. We spent most of the day at the hotel. Jamie and I saw a few iguanas in a palm tree. There was also one eating an apple in the middle of the path. When I was taking Jamie to the school we had a pretty big storm go over and there was flooding so we drove around a while so I could show her. It doesn't rain like that where we're from. After the flooding subsided we went to a near by bakery. For dinner, we all went to the brass cactus. Everyone liked the food and we got a key lime pie to bring back to the school. We ended day 1 with pie and othello. Good day.

Day 84

Jamie and my parents will be getting on a plan to visit in three hours. I am meeting them at the airport at 10:30am tomorrow. Saul, Gabi, and Kioney were back in school today. Gabi fell on his bike at play time and got hit in the eye with the end of one of the handle bars. He's going to have a pretty good black eye. Woke up today and it was raining so I woke up Betsy and we went to the beach. The rain stopped before we got there though. We watched the sunrise and we were back in time for school. Always a nice way to start the day. We had badminton today, I personally had a great time. I hope the kids did too. Some of them are getting good enough that I can be hard on them and not let them win every time. I'm so excited for my visitors.

Day 83

Another day without Saul, and his grandmother's phone isn't working. I'll just have to continue to pray for him. I mowed most of the lawns today. I'm trying to get them out of the way so I don't have to mow when I have visitors. I think I'm bringing my parents and Jamie to church on Sunday. They don't speak any Spanish but Hector is always willing to interpret, I hope. He's cutting my hair tomorrow so I'll ask him then. I am going to have a really busy week next week. I plan on getting lost between three and six times. Luckily I have people I can call who know this little island pretty well. Now here is an over sized quote from a wise slave.
"You have no idea of where God is going to engineer your circumstances, no knowledge of what strain is going to be put on you either at home or abroad, and if you waste your time in over-active energies instead of getting into soak on the great fundamental truths of God's Redemption, you will snap when the strain comes; but if this time of soaking before God is being spent in getting rooted and grounded in God on the unpractical line, you will remain true to Him what ever happens." -Oswald Chambers

Day 82

Saul wasn't at school today. No fun. The riding lawn mower is making bad noises. I spent the morning taking off everything I thought was making the noise and putting it all back on. Still doesn't sound good. Badminton was cancelled today. We played the bells for an entire hour. Some of the songs are starting to sound pretty good. Can't wait to show Jamie and my parents. I moved my snake down to Betsy's class now that everyone is less excited and they are less likely to be distracted. I doubt that will be true with Saul. Adriana and Kevin came with Betsy Elizabeth and I to Spanish church. It was great seeing the sermon translated into Sign Language. I understood so much more than when I'm just trying to understand Spanish. Sign Language is better. We have poison! Weed poison and rat poison. Awesome

Day 81

Tuesday. Elizabeth's class went very well. She got back from her appointment on time and with good news. She got her test results back and all is well. I killed a rat this morning. I was walking in front of the classrooms before anyone was really out there. I almost tripped on the thing. We had an exterminator out recently and I guess this rat got into some poison. It wasn't dead but it wasn't doing so good. So I got a rock and put it out of its pain. Gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. The weather is becoming more reasonable. There have also been less storms so the water is getting really clear. So Leo, Betsy, and I went snorkeling after badminton. We saw so many cool things. I can't wait to show my parents and Jamie.

Day 80

I changed my background, don't be alarmed. I fixed the riding lawnmower today. Nothing major, the blade was too low so it hit the ground and logged itself in the medal guard that is right above it. I pulled it out, it didn't even bend the blade so all is well. It is going to be so weird having my parents here. My mind has separated my two worlds and I don't know what's going to happen when they smash into each other. So many plans for them. They're definitely going to be in culture shock. They also have to deal with the time change, which is three hours now but it will be four soon. So much to do, so little time. Elizabeth has another doctors appointment in the morning so I am subbing for her class until lunch. Which should be fun. Her students are are older and very fun to teach. I often help with debates in her class.

Day 79

Today was a really long day. I just thought about how I went to the beach to watch the sunrise this morning at 5:30, and that feels like it could have been 5 days ago. I could be because I woke up three times today. It all started when I couldn't sleep last night, then I went to the beach after like three hours of sleep. After the beach I went back to sleep and napped till church started. Those are the first two times I woke up today. Then after church and lunch, which I can't imagine was today it feels more like last week, I inadvertently fell asleep sitting on Betsy's couch. I was there because I was going to play Othello with Betsy, and then an hour and a half later she woke me up because she was leaving for night church. She goes really early to teach piano lessons. At the time I thought that I only closed my eyes for maybe five minutes. Later, after church we were all talking and Betsy informed me how long I had actually slept. That's the thing about Puerto Rico, an hour and a half could just vanish from your day and you would never notice. Or maybe its just me. So all that sleeping has really thrown off my schedule but I think I eventually made up for the bad nights sleep of last night. Tomorrow is Monday, I can't wait to see the kids!
